A Greeting from The owner

Welcome to Casa Bergand!

We hope that you will enjoy your stay at our home in Spain, just as much as we do! We want you to feel relaxed, and at home in this Swedish/Spanish family-house. This house has been in our family for approx. 17 years. Both our families have lived in Almunecar a great deal of the time, and we always spend as much time as we can of our holidays here in Almunecar.

At first it was Peters parents who owned the house, and in 2015 Peter and Elisabeth took over, and celebrated the occasion with their engagement up at The Cross of Almunecar overlooking the ocean.

We hope you have a nice time and really feel at home in our home in Almunecar, Casa Elisa!

Kind regards and Welcome!

Elisabeth & Peter

Names of nice places/restaurants/ tapas bars near our home, on the San Cristobal Promenade and in the old town.

Rinconcillo de JR: If you walk from the house down to San Cristobal beach, turn right and walk about 200 meter. The restaurant is at the corner of the promenade. Excellent tapas and food, very friendly service!

La China: A bit further on from the Rinconsillo JR on the the promenade, nice place, very cheap and excellent tapas!

Don Olivo: This is when you go to the right once you have walked down from the house, 3 minutes walk. Excellent restaurant, excellent food!

Antonia: To the right once you have walked down from the house, excellent food, and tapas; they also have a “Sangria especial” that is worth a try!

La Dorada de  Plata: This is a very good restaurant, on the San Cristobal promenade, directly on the beach, very good fish!

La Churreria de San Cristobal: On the promade in the direction of Almunecar old town: go there on a Sunday morning for a wonderful breakfast with Churros!

Los Geraneos: Plaza de la Rosa, in the old town, a wonderful restaurant, sort of refined and revised Spanish cuisine, a real must, but it’s small so make sure you book a table in advance!

Meson Francisco 2:  Also in the old town, Calle alta del Mar: good traditional food with nice terrace.

Meson Gala: Old town, Plaza Damasco. Very good food!

Meson Emiliano: Old town, Calle Fuente Nueva: here again, very good traditional Spanish food!

Arrival & departure information

Almuñécar lies in the province of Granada, in an area called Costa Tropical, between Nerja (Málaga) and Motril, 90 km from Malaga airport and within an hours drive from Granada and the ski resort of the Sierra Nevada. Further inland there are miles and miles of Andalucian countryside to explore.

Almunecar has a subtropical climate and has some 3,500 hours of annual sunshine and temperatures that average 30ºC in summer and 15º during the short winter.

There are around 27,700 inhabitants (2012) living here.

The town is backed by rugged hills, valleys and agricultural land of olive groves, almond and carob trees.

Casa Bergand is located in the old town a nice area close to shops and restaurants and only a short walk from the beaches. Almuñécar's old town is perfect to explore with its small shops and winding alleyways and of course the old castle and museum.

The old quarter of the town is virtually unchanged with narrow, winding streets, whitewashed houses with wrought iron terraces overflowing with flowers. Take some time to explore this uniques place.

See more information about restaurants and shops in this guide.

The house has free Wi-Fi. The details are:

Taxi transfer is the easiest and most comfortable way of traveling from Malaga Airport to Almunecar. You will be met inside the airport where your driver will be holding a sign with your name. He will help you with your luggage to the nearby vehicle. The journey time is approximately 60 minutes with almost all of the trip on the coastal motorway.

We will gladly help you to book transfer from the airport to Casa Elisa if needed. Please let us know a minimum of 2 weeks before your arrival if you want o book this service. The cost for transfer is 90 euros each way.

You can also travel with bus from the airport to Almunecar. First, you have to get from Malaga airport to Malaga bus station:

Getting from Malaga Airport to Malaga Bus Station:

The A Express bus (Line 75) leaves from outside the T3 arrivals area.

When you exit the airport through the terminal 3 arrivals hall, turn to the right and go outside into the square. Just in front of the exit is a small kiosk where you should buy the bus tickets if you don't already have one. The buses stop at the far side of this square. The buses are every 20 to 30 minutes from 07:00 until 24:00 (from the airport) or 06:25 until 23:30 (to the airport). The journey time is about 30 minutes, but the buses are comfy and air-conditioned.

At Málaga Bus Station, purchase a ticket from the Alsa Bus Company office. The busticket to Almunecar costs about 9 euro. During periods of the year the bus to Almunecar leaves only only 2 times a day from Malaga Bus station, be sure to check out the timetables for the bus at:

Depending on the time of day you select, this journey will be approximately 1.5 – 2 hours.

There is also a direct bus from Malaga Airport to Almunecar at 14.15 PM and from Almunecar to Malaga Airport at 11.15 AM. Check out the schedules on this link

We suggest a taxi for the journey from the bus station in Almunecar to Casa Catrin

Taxis are available at the front of the bus station.

Train from Málaga Airport to Málaga City:

September 10th 2010 saw the construction of a new RENFE train station at the Malaga airport, 30 metres from the terminal building, meaning an end to long treks with heavy bags. It is a very quick, convenient and easy way to get to Málaga bus station or the Málaga city. The suburban train station forms part of the Terminal T3 building. The train journey takes 11 minutes and costs €1,80 each way.

First train from the airport to Malaga-Centro Alhameda is at 06.44 and then every 20 minutes until 00:03.

First train from Malaga Centro Alhameda station to the airport is at 05:20 then every 20 minutes until 22:53.

At Málaga Bus Station, purchase a ticket from the Alsa Bus Company office. The bus ticket to Almunecar costs about 9 euro. During periods of the year the bus to Almunecar leaves only 2 times a day from Malaga Bus station, be sure to check out the timetables for the bus at:

Alsa – (  Full bus company timetables, routes, travelling times and fares.

If you rent a car at Malaga airport its is very easy to get out and on to the motorway to Almunecar. Head out of the airport (there is only one way out) and you will join the M23. Keep on this road until you join the M20 in direction: Motril and Almeria. You are then on the AUTOVÍA del MEDITERRANEO (A7).  Carry on following the large blue signs to: ALMERIA, CORDOBA, GRANADA and SEVILLA the A7,E15 and A45 . Several kms further on after leaving Málaga - the motorway splits to the right to Granada, Cordoba and Sevilla (DO NOT take this) but follow signs straight on for ALMERÍA and MOTRIL.

This motorway follows the coast all the way to Almunecar.

Leave the highway at the junction Almunecar Oueste and La Herradura.

Drive past La Herradura and towards Almuñecar. Please follow the route on this link to guide you to the nearest parking space:

This is where the house is located:

or alternatively meet us in the market square which is next to Mc. Donald's and we will guide you to the house.

Casa Bergand is located in the old town so there are no parking spaces near the house. Between July and September there is difficult to park on the street because it is the tourist season, so the only place to park is at the parking house down at the Paseo del Atillo 5 - near the beach. Here is a link to this parking house:

To park in Almunecar and special in the parkinghouses in the high season is some how expensive. So we recomend that if you dont need a car during your visit, take a taxi from and to the airport. Then you can relaxe without worrying about where to park. We can help you to order a taxi.

Regarding parking in Almunecar:

On the low season (October to June) there are various parkings spaces all around town. The free ones are painted white, and the ones you have to pay for during summer are painted blue.

The amount of parking spaces varies a lot from high season in comparison the rest of the year. In summer when Almunecar is full of summer guests, it can be a bit tricky to find parking. The rest of the year it is usually no problem at all.

If you arrive before the designated check-in time. The good news is that there is plenty to do. We often suggest that guests visit the grocery store and do some shopping. That will give you more time to relax once you've checked in! There are also many good restaurants for lunch (check out the house owners recommendations) so why not relax and enjoy some of the local food!

Departure information

On the day of your departure (or the evening before your departure, if you have an early flight) one of our team will come and say goodbye to you and take care of the keys and return the deposit if nothing has been damaged. The check out time will be agreed with you when we meet you for the check-in.

We hope you have had a wonderful holiday and wish you safe travels back home. We'd love to see you back here again next year!

Check-out time is at the latest 10:00.

About Casa Bergand

The house has the benefit of air conditioning. Please ensure that all windows and outside doors are closed whilst the AC is running to ensure it operates to maximum efficiency. We recommend a setting of (24C) which we find keeps the house sufficiently cool.

To turn on/off the air condition press on/off on the remote control and adjust the temperature if needed.

Some bedrooms have a ceiling fan. Turn on the fan using the switch on the wall. The switch controls both light and fan so you can also turn on/off the fan or light by the strings on the fan.

All manuals for the electrical equipment and appliances are in a drawer in the kitchen.

The Dishwasher: It's very simple, we promise! We provide a supply of tablets - you will need to insert one into the flip box container on the inside of the dishwasher door. Then press the program button of your choice - there are a few settings which are obvious - then press the start button. We suggest that you use the eco-program to save our environment.

The Fridge/freezer: You should not need to adjust any settings. If you run into any difficulties (e.g. it's not cooling efficiently) please let us know.

We have a washing machine located up in the terrace in the upper kitchen. There is a supply of detergent for your use. To operate the machines, simply select the program you want, place the detergent in the tray, close the door, and hit start.

The house has free Wi-Fi. The details are:

Enjoying your time outside
